Optics & Quality
The beauty of pearls is not only in their shape, but also in their optics — the way they play with light is nature’s most poetic language. At BaroqueHour, we’ve created a complete atlas of optical qualities to help you understand luster, iridescence, nacre thickness, and colors.

Orient vs. Luster
Luster: The surface reflection of the pearl, often mirror-like when strong.
Orient: The layered iridescence deep within, as if light were moving through ripples and clouds.
Iridescence
We grade iridescence on a 0–100 scale:
- 0–30: Subtle glow
- 30–70: Visible iridescence
- 70–100: Cosmic depth of layered colors
Nacre Thickness & Durability
Thicker nacre creates deeper luster and greater durability. Under side light, the depth reveals vitality. Thin nacre may peel or fade over time.
At BaroqueHour, every pearl is mapped into our “Optics & Quality” system. Not to enforce a standard, but to help you find the light that is truly yours.
